Design Lighting Lights Up Larimer Square
Self described “lighting nerds” Mike Bradbury and Rex Baker of Design Lighting have lit up Larimer Square, literally. After working for larger companies, the Design Lighting’s co-owners decided to branch off on their own, and three years later the successful lighting business now calls Larimer Square home.
“We were previously located in a more industrial area, which was fine to maintain our business, but we moved to the prestigious Larimer Square address to grow our business and get our company name out there,” Bradbury says.
Larimer Square has Design Lighting to thank for the recent makeover of its iconic canopy of lights over the Square. The canopy’s new LED bulbs use more than 80 percent less energy than traditional light bulbs. Bradbury notes that if the new bulbs were left on 24 hours a day, it would be about 10 years before they would need replacing.
Other recent unique Design Lighting projects include the lighting in the Wildlife Experience’s IMAX movie theatre. The company also recently collaborated with local artists in the new Excel Building at the 1800 block of Larimer to create exquisite color changing lights to highlight the glass art wall.
“We are very excited about our move to the Larimer Square,” Bradbury says. “There’s such energy here, and it’s great to be so close to a project we are so proud of.”
