The boutique shop owners on Larimer Square lay out the fashion trends for you to watch for this upcoming spring season.

Statement Accessories

Fashion trends aren’t just about clothes. Denise Snyder of Mariel says it’s all about the extras. “Adding a bold, eye-catching necklace to a party dress and carrying a colorful clutch are easy ways to stand out in a crowd,” she said. Jewelry this season will be about large flowers, large gem inlays, and pieces full of personality.

Dress from Mariel, 303 Magazine

Major Metallics

Clothes and shoes will be adding a little glitz, sparkle and shimmer to your wardrobe this spring. “Metallic colors of all sorts are in style, whether it be gold, pewter, silver, bronze, you name it, it will work,” said Ilene Vivinetto of Scarpaletto. Also flattering the metallic accents are sequined blazers, shirts, and shoes.

Sheer It

Fashion trends get a little more revealing this spring with risque, sheer patterned tops and dresses. We can blame it on the heat. Designers are using cut-outs, slits and a lot of lace this spring, giving an innocent peek at the skin under the fashion.

Go Blue

Blues of all shades will be fashion forward this season. Look for everything from true navy to turquoise. “Blue is a nice change from the standard pastels and floral designs that show up every year at this time,” said Stacy McElhany of Violet boutique. “It will make a great statement.”

Pattern & Detail

Designers this spring are helping us by matching skirts and shirts that feature perfectly paired prints. “A lot of my spring items have two different patterns together on one dress or jacket, and it works nicely together, giving you lots of options to add accessories,” said Sabine Roccho of Eve boutique.

Boots & Wedges

“Boots with everything” will remain popular throughout the season, according to Vivinetto. Whether it’s accented cowboy boots or knee-high suede, boots are here to stay for awhile longer. Wedge shoes are also back, and will go perfectly with your light spring scarf. Think neutral colors and peep toes.

Other trends to keep an eye out for are military inspired clothes, boyfriend jeans, feathers and ruffles.

“There is definitely a rock ‘n’ roll edge to fashion this spring,” Snyder said. “It’s going to be a great season to have fun with the different trends.”

“We couldn’t be more excited about the changes and additions on the Square,” said Joe Vostrejs, chief operating officer for Larimer Associates, the Denver-based real estate investment and management firm that operates Larimer Square. “This success is due in part to staying true to our vision for Larimer Square – to create a true destination, featuring chef-driven restaurants and owner-operated businesses that boast regionally-exclusive, innovative and unique offerings.”

For the past ten years, Larimer Square, under the direction of Vostrejs and Jeff Hermanson, chief executive officer for Larimer Associates, has gone through a dramatic repositioning movement. More than 90 percent of the property has been leased to new merchants in that time frame that fit the vision of distinctive urban shopping and dining. Larimer Square currently has more than 100 tenants with 40 retail/restaurant merchants in that mix.
