HISTORY

Larimer Square is an area as rich in history as it is in fine shopping and dining. As the Mile High City’s oldest and most historic block, its buildings tell vividly the story of the birth and early years of Denver.

HISTORIC DENVER’S LARIMER SQUARE WALKING TOUR

This tour will explore Larimer Square “Then & Now,” providing participants with information about the founding of Denver and the earliest city core, which eventually fell into hard times, turning into skid row in the mid-20th century. In time, it was resurrected by local citizens, led by Dana Crawford, who saved the block from demolition in the name of urban renewal. The first Historic District in Denver, Larimer Square is now economically vibrant and preserved for future generations.

Historic Denver’s volunteer docents will lead tour attendees along the streets of Larimer Square, stopping to look at the beautiful buildings and hear stories that occurred behind the walls. Then the tour will head over to another preservation success story and landmark, the Daniels & Fisher Tower. Here, guests will be allowed to look out over Denver and view the city from a new perspective.

Meet your tour docent at the Kettle Arcade (1420 Larimer St), where the tour will begin. The tour will end at the Daniels & Fisher Tower (1601 Arapahoe St), after covering about one mile of walking.

The tour lasts approximately 90 minutes.

Tickets are Non-refundable once purchased, but can be rescheduled with 24-hours notice. You may reschedule your tickets (subject to availability) by calling 303-534-5288 ext. 5.
